Old:Book to Movie 2011

Hosted by Two Bibliomaniacs my first ‘official’ [read not self inflicted], challenge is on! The rules? Read a book, watch the movie. June 2011 to the end of the year. The books I have listed I have read since June and are thereby totally submittable. Here goes!

  1. The Color Purple, by Alice Walker – 1985 film. Watched and wrote about here.
  2. The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas – 2002 film. Posted on it here.
  3. Brave New World, by A Huxley – 1998 T.V. movie, but Lenord Nimoy is in it so I say it counts! Watched and Posted about here.
  4. A Tale of Two Cities, by Dickens – There are two versions out there; a 1935 version from MGM that was nominated for the acadamy award or a 1958 British made version…. I’ll see which I can find first. Watched and Posted on here.
  5. The Woman in White, by Wilkie Colins – I’m excited! 1997 film and I’m going to watch it! Watched and posted on here.
  6. Dracula, by Bram Stoker – 1992 film by Francis Ford Coppola. Posted on Here.
  7. The Three Musketeers, by Alexandre Dumas – There are a ton. I googled “most true to book” and found the 1966 series was well done; but I haven’t seen the latest one so I’ll watch that and call it good. To Be Watched. Posted on the 2011 film Here.

———————————————————————————————–

  • The Wasp Factory, by Ian Banks – no film yet.
  • The Inferno, by Dante – no credible film yet.
  • Moby Dick, by Herman Melvile – nothing since 1956
  • Bleak House – Just a bunch of T.V. mini-series’, while I will evenutally watch one of them I won’t pretend it counts for this challenge.
  • The Secret History, by Donna Tartt – no film. NO FILM? Idiots…sigh
  • Dracula, by Bram Stoker – 1992 film by Francis Ford Coppola.
  • The Three Musketeers, by Alexandre Dumas – There are a ton. I googled “most true to book” and found the 1966 series was well done; but I haven’t seen the latest one so I’ll watch that and call it good. To Be Watched
  • Oliver Twist, by Charles Dickens – Oliver! I’ve seen it, but like forever ago… does it still count if I watch it again? We’ll find out :)
  • A Town Like Alice, by Nevile Shute – only an old 80′s mini series; and a 1950′s film I can’t get a hold of.
  1. Thanks for signing up for the challenge! You have an awesome list of Books / Movies. I just watched the previews to the upcoming Three Musketeers movie and plan to cram the read in asap. I also just completed the Woman in White and can’t wait to see a film adaptation!
